When Georgia Auctioneers met at the end of January during the 2013 Winter Conference association members took the opportunity to have a knowledge sharing session in preparation for the National Auctioneers Association Internet Auction Summit to occur several weeks later in Nashville, Tennessee. The GAA Internet Auction Session was an open forum with contributions shared by many and open participation from members who asked lots of questions.  Gaines Dempsey, of Dempsey Auction Company started the discussions by sharing how he administers  his online only auction events. For the benefit of those not in  attendance for the session, Gaines Dempsey, Myers Jackson, Amy Martin and Bo Benton spoke very positively of the Internet as an auction platform. There were discussions regarding how to market online only events, Internet Auction administration, platforms available, and simulcast auction events. Gaines kindly provided a follow-up to  the discussion GAA wanted to share with those present at the Conference and our members. If you have an idea for a future knowledge sharing  session you’d like to participate in for Summer Conference please contact us with your suggestions.  Gaines Dempsey is currently Vice President of the Georgia Auctioneers Association and  third generation Auctioneer with Dempsey Auction Company, established in 1965.  Recently his company closed a Cloudland, GA sale (click for details) they sold using the Internet Auction process.  This event had six active bidders.  You can visit his auction page the view the progression of the bidding.  Online bids started at $150,000 and over a 2 hour period reached $180,000.  With constant communication and negotiation between auctioneer, realtor and active bidders the auctioneers were able to work with buyer’s realtor and ended up making a deal at $205,000.  The sale closed five days later. This example demonstrates how important communication, negotiation and  involvement are in the Internet Auction Process. Thanks everyone for sharing  your examples, questions and curiosity!

Bo Benton, Amy Martin and Myers Jackson represented Georgia Auctioneers Association at National Auctioneers Association (NAA) Internet Auction Summit on February 5th and 6th. Their contact information is available on our website in the “Find an Auctioneer” page if you would like to contact them.
