(Atlanta, GA) – Thursday April 19, 2012 underneath the gold dome of the capital, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed a proclamation to make the month of April 2012 “Auctioneers Month” in Georgia. “It is a high honor for the auctioneers of Georgia to be recognized by the Governor in this manner,” said Buddy Lee, President of the Georgia Auctioneers Association (GAA).
“Auctioneers have long been an important member to the business community, contributing to the economic well-being, and to the preservation of the American free enterprise system,” the proclamation stated. Auctions date back to as early as the days of Babylon and are in the forefront of today’s business environment. Today auctioneers across Georgia sell almost everything imaginable…automobiles, equipment, livestock, real estate, personal property and charity items.
According to the Georgia Secretary of State’s website there are 1,128 licensed resident auctioneers and another 338 non-resident auctioneers.
During the month of April, members of the Georgia Auctioneers Association will join with members of similar organizations across the country to observe Auctioneers Month. “There are a lot of great men and women in the auction industry and these folks represent a system that creates an open forum and produces a true market value,” said Buddy Lee, President of the Georgia Auctioneers Association.
