Winners of Big Peach Classic – Bid Calling Contest

Georgia Auctioneers Association held it’s annual community fun auction on Saturday, January 26th at Veterans State Park in Cordele, GA. The auction was open to the public and there were great finds and good deals to be had by all.  Seven auctioneers, George Franco, JT McWilliams, Sherry Spence, Chad “Cracker” Johnson, Myers Jackon, Wilbur Mull and Amy Martin, competed to take home the Big Peach Classic Championship title. Each demonstrated their abilities and talents by auctioning items offered at the auction.  As auctioneer contestants took his and her turn each would chant, spot bids and also rotate serving as a ring person. The competition was stiff but ultimately only three names could be determined winners. Congratulations to the Big Peach Classic bid calling champions and thank you to everyone who participated.  Check out the community auction photo album of this event just posted on our Facebook page and be sure to Friend and “Like” Georgia Auctioneers Association’s Fan Page so we can tag your photos in our posts!

GAA Supports the National Auctioneers Association Auxiliary

GAA had our Winter Conference this weekend during which we had our Community Fun Auction at Veterans State Park in Cordele, GA.  Myers Jackson, GAA President, donated several signed prints that each of Georgia’s Big Peach Classic bid calling contestants sold during the public auction. It was announced before each of the offerings that the proceeds from the sale, from each print, would benefit the NAA Auxiliary and he shared a little information about the organization, mission and encouraged GAA Members and guest present to join, support and get involved with the National Auctioneers Association & Auxiliary. On behalf of GAA, Myers thanked those who are members of NAA Auxiliary, including Angela Johnson, for her contributions.  The prints sold are named “Unsung Heros” by Joan C. Mangold and are a classic depiction of a 1920’s era auction. Aside from the automobiles in the picture it may look like many public auctions still popular today. The image whimsically captures the energy of auction day, in a multi-ring auction which spreads beyond the confines of the yellow and white striped auction tent. GAA is proud to support the NAA Auxiliary and we’ve included some information below on how to become a member or contact the group for additional information.

How To Join NAA Auxiliary

Information about the NAA Auxiliary is available on their website at NaaAuxiliary.org or you can contact them by phone at 816-873-0239. Annual dues are approximately $25 and membership applications are available online. This is a well established organization and has been providing services to the NAA and it’s members for 60 years. Any person who has reached the age of 18 shall be entitled to join the Auxiliary upon recommendation of a member of the National Auctioneers Association or a member of the Auxiliary to the National Auctioneers Association in good standing.  Please visit the NAA Auxiliary website, contact them or visit their booth at NAA’s Annual Conference to get current information on membership, dues and requirements to join!

2012 Tybee Island Summer Conference Photos

SUNDAY NIGHT SHRIMP BOIL AT TYBEE ISLAND HISTORIC GUARD HOUSE

The summer conference ended with Sunday night with a low country boil and fellowship with plenty to eat. The evening meal fit right in with the atmosphere on Georgia’s Coastal Island at Tybee’s historic guard house. Special thanks to GAA’s Executive Chef Drew Dixon for sharing his culinary gifts and to Rowell Auctions for donating the grub!  After dinner several members were recognized, new board members were announced, and we all had lots of fun with our annual raffle…
THE ART OF THE DEAL

Long timer Auctioneers Lynn Dempsey and John Dixon agree that it is better to share in the profits. The annual reverse draw came down to two tickets and these pros understand is it better to go home with something than go home with nothing. These veterans have been face with difficult decisions in the past but at this years summers conference it was a easy decision to eat fresh Georgia Shrimp, network and tell old war stories about auctions past. It was a good time for all.

Highlights of 2012 Auctioneers Winter Conference

The Georgia Auctioneer Association’s 2012 Winter Conference was a great success with approximately 60 Auctioneer’s in attendance. The event was held at a new venue, Lake Blackshear Resort that offered nice scenic views of the lake and property. The GA Auctioneer Conference schedule was packed full of diverse events beginning with a Public Auction to benefit our association and participating non-profit communities and groups. GAA officers suggested a new format for the public auction, which produced strong returns and will be incorporated into future auction fundraisers. During the auction contestants of the 2012 Georgia Auctioneers Association Bid Calling Competition had an opportunity to shine, demonstrating quality Auctioneer skills to sell many of the lots offered while competing for the much desired title and Georgia’s 2012 Big Peach Classic Trophy and honors. Congratulations to Scott Roberts who was named the Grand Champion, Steve Mathis took home the second place honors and Myers Jackson finished with third place.

Auctioneer Education provided a plethora of fresh information to help our members hone their skills and better serve their Georgia Auction Businesses, sellers and buyers. Education is a key component to all of our gatherings and we were pleased to see members networking, learning and sharing information in open forums.

A highlight of this year’s conference was a casual Barbeque with friends and counterparts filled with plenty of good food and entertainment. Thanks again to John & Drew Dixon for sharing there fabulous BBQ and all those who helped. It was fun to cook, visit and dance with friends. For those of you not in attendance, you missed Buddy Lee’s performance with the band.

In closing we look forward to returning to Lake Blackshear Resort again! Georgia Auctioneer Association’s officers are presently planning our 2012 Georgia Auctioneers Association Summer Event. Information will be posted soon. Thanks everyone for your support and your feedback is always appreciated. Check out our Facebook Page for More Photos & Galleries from this Event!
